Evi Buelens works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium (VUB). She is a member of the ‘Sport & Society’ research group. Evi graduated in 2010 at the VUB as a master in Physical Education and movement sciences (specialization Sports Management) with high distinction. She started her research career at the University of Antwerp (dec. 2010-may 2011), as a researcher at the Faculty of Applied Economics, department management. In January 2012, Evi started her PhD-study at the VUB and in September 2016, she achieved her PhD in Physical Education and Movement Sciences. Her PhD-study is entitled: ‘Exploring the developmental role of volunteering in sport for youngsters in socially vulnerable situations’. Evi’s research primarily focuses on volunteering, (critical) youth development, necessary and sufficient conditions, sport, and disadvantaged youth. Currently, Evi is obtained with the valorisation of her PhD-study where she develops a competence toolkit that aims to suppor social sport practices, throughout Flanders, in their attempt to develop (socially vulnerable) youngsters’ competences through taking engagement in sport. It collects different instruments, ranging from practical instruments and instruction manuals to substantive methodologies and an online application. Besides, Evi is also involved in different other research projects. Evi published her work in peer reviewed journals and gave several presentations at international and national scientific conferences.
Since Octobre 2017 Evi works at the Flemish Sport Administration at the sport coaches school (Vlaamse trainersschool).
